Mazel Tov !

This past weekend, my fiancé and I were invited to one of her close friends wedding. This was my second time at a Jewish wedding. I've been to a different Jewish wedding before but this one was more traditional and religious. It is very interesting how those from another religion celebrate their marriage. Although for the most part it has the same concept as a traditional American wedding, they have other additions that make you feel intrigued on how diverse our society is. Before stepping on the alter, the bride would walk in a circle around the groom seven times. This represents the seven wedding blessings and seven days of creation, and demonstrating that the groom is the center of her world. The bride also told us how both her and her husband has fasted the entire day and their first meal would be together as a married couple. Another Jewish tradition I've seen is when the bride and groom are lifted up on the chairs they're sitting on while everyone is dancing.
At the alter, or "chuppah," it has four corners and a covered roof to symbolize the new home the bride and groom are building together. After both bride and groom become officially married… Mazel Tov!

The marriage ceremony took place at a synagogue followed the reception at a steak house called Rothmans Steakhouse. Let me tell you, for this being a famous steak house, the steak is nothing to rave about. The best part about my meal was the breadbasket. I must've eaten about 10 piece of challah bread. For those who don't know what that is, its a Jewish sweet bread. It tasted amazing, especially with butter. But at the end of the day, we weren't there for the food. We were there to celebrate the marriage of two individuals who will love each other until they grow old.

  2. It sounds like a great time! I was at a Serbian Christian wedding, where the Bride and groom were carried around on chairs. I will have to ask them if it is typical or if they just borrowed the Jewish custom. Good vocabulary and grammar points!
